MBMA started in 2009 with a single voice studio and a simple belief: real music training changes lives. Founded by master vocal coach Ebony Sowell-Franklin, what began as My Best Voice — a vocal coaching practice for serious singers — has grown into one of Atlanta’s most distinctive music academies.
Over 20 years, MBMA has evolved from community-based lessons into the application-only academy you see today. We’ve trained Broadway performers, professional recording artists, college-bound students, and adult musicians returning to music after decades away. We’ve partnered with 13+ schools across Fulton and DeKalb counties, reaching 375+ students annually through after-school programs.
But our heart has always been the same: real musicians, growing through real training, in a community that takes their commitment seriously.
Today, MBMA is the anchor of a broader ecosystem — including My Best Voice (adult professional vocal training), iSing Mastery (online vocal mastery), My Best Music Project (our 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded with Sony Music), and the Pitch Please Podcast. Ebony Sowell-Franklin is a master vocal coach, music educator, and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience training singers, professional recording artists, and Broadway performers.
She founded My Best Voice in 2004 as a vocal coaching practice for serious singers, which has since grown into My Best Music Academy and the broader ecosystem of MBMA brands.
Ebony is the creator of two proprietary frameworks: The S.I.N.G. Method, an approach to vocal training that integrates technique, intentionality, narrative, and growth; and Vocal Exposure Therapy™, a system designed to help singers move past performance anxiety and stage fear.
A performer in her own right, Ebony has performed across the United States and has expanded business across the world including Ghana, Sierra Leone, Kenya, and New York City. She is a certified NLP Practitioner, pursuing certification through Andrew Byrne’s The Singing Athlete™ methodology, and a member of the Atlanta Black Chambers Global Opportunities Committee.
She is also the host of the Pitch Please Podcast, where she explores voice, performance, and the artistic life with industry guests.

Ebony Sowell Franklin is a passionate musician and entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience teaching singers, professional recording artists, Broadway performers, and more. As the proud founder of My Best Music, which she has operated for the past four years, she has made a significant impact in the Atlanta metro area by providing services to 10 community centers and schools. Ebony believes in the transformative power of music to connect people and uplift spirits. Through her ventures, My Best Music and My Best Voice, she combines her artistic vision with business acumen to create exceptional music projects that resonate with audiences. Her commitment to nurturing emerging artists and promoting diverse voices has established her as a respected figure in the music community. Through her work, Ebony aims to inspire others to embrace their creative journeys and express themselves authentically.
DuBois, a passionate vocalist and artist hailing from Atlanta, GA, brings a wealth of knowledge to My Best Voice Music Academy. A graduate of Florida A&M University, his expertise in music is fueled by a deep love for the art. As a new teacher, DuBois is thrilled to nurture and guide aspiring male voices, fostering a foundation for their musical journey. With dedication and a commitment to excellence, he looks forward to creating harmonious experiences for beginners at the academy.
Born in Douglasville, GA and raised in Atlanta, Maxwell Estis transcends the boundaries of music and art set by genre. As a pianist he is well versed in classical, jazz, and contemporary styles. As an arranger/composer he calls upon influence from various mentors working in film, commercial, and mainstream music as well as his Bachelor of Arts degree in Contemporary Writing and Production from Berklee.
Jose Almonte, born in Brooklyn in 1997, grew up in Powder Springs, Georgia, where he began studying percussion at 12. A standout musician, he earned honors in all-state bands and the Governor’s Honors Program. He attended Columbus State University on the Bo Bartlett scholarship, earning a BA in percussion performance. Jose has performed with prestigious ensembles and studied under top percussionists. Now based in Atlanta, he directs percussion at St. Pius X Catholic High School and performs professionally. Also
Lyneeca Lindsey is a passionate music teacher and choir director with over 20 years of experience leading choirs across Georgia, Alabama, Kansas, and Wisconsin. She loves helping both adults and children refine their voices. Beyond music, she is an experienced educator and founder of Lindsey Educational Services, providing tutoring in various subjects and test prep for GED, SAT, and ACT. She holds a CDA from Spelman, an AS and BS in Education, and a Master’s in Professional Counseling from the University of West Georgia. A certified teacher since 2010, Lyneeca is dedicated to lifelong learning and teaching.
Jessica is a dedicated and experienced music educator passionate about inspiring students through engaging and innovative teaching methods. With expertise in music theory, brass, piano, audio production, and group performance, she has worked with K-12 students to develop their musical talents while fostering creativity and confidence. Her approach emphasizes individualized learning and hands-on instruction, helping each student reach their full potential. Holding a master’s degree in Child and Adolescent Psychology, Jessica integrates a deep understanding of developmental needs into her teaching, creating a supportive and enriching environment where students thrive both musically and personally.
Christina Wilson is a talented and passionate actress with a heart full of joy for performance! With over eight years of performing experience and six years of teaching artist experience Christina has mastered the art of keeping attention and sparking imaginations. When she's not gracing the stage in shows like New Jack City Live! She's dedicated to nurturing the next generation of performers. She is dedicated to not only her craft but her love for teaching!
Trisha is a dedicated performer and instructor, recently receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater. A Georgia native, she is ecstatic to finally return home and share her knowledge and passion with the next generation of artists. As a teacher, she aims to help students find their passion in music and the arts, and what makes them unique. She prides herself on emphasizing individuality, collaboration, and building a solid foundation that will help artists launch their career independently.
Monique is a vocalist, composer, and voice teacher who believes that every voice holds expressive potential. Since 2019, they have taught using principles from Jeanie LoVetris Somatic Voicework™, having completed all three levels of certification. Lessons include tailored exercise regimens focused on individual goals, emphasizing vocal health and technical skill-building through an evidence-based somatic approach. Because the voice and body work as a unit, Monique encourages awareness of this connection and supports vocal well-being across all stylistic pursuits. They also bring expertise in composition, piano for singers, and ear training, and currently work as a Teaching Artist and Education Programs Assistant with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Monique holds degrees in Music Composition and Psychology from the University of Georgia, a post-bacc certificate in Speech-Language Pathology from Northwestern University, and is currently pursuing an M.A. in Vocal Pedagogy from the Voice
